The end of XX century brought various cognitive theories to the foreground of modern linguistics. As noted by such researchers as E. Semino, P. Crisp, L. Zabotkina and others, some cognitive theories can be used for cognitive text analysis. At the same time, the last decades of XX century signify considerable changes in the language of Russian literature in general and poetry in particular. With its post-modernistic and avant-garde infl uences, modern Russian poetry uses controversial and odd means of expressions, which often appear to be unexplainable by traditional methods of linguistic analysis. In this paper we provide an example of cognitive analysis on the material of V. Kal’pidi’s poem performed by means of G. Fauconnier’s Mental Spaces Theory. Such cognitive approach on textual analysis reveals the deepest layers of perception of some post-modernistic means of expression, highlights the particular features of poem’s temporal and spatial organization and shows how exactly such linguistic experiments affect a reader’s mind. Additionally, the example of practical application of Mental Spaces theory on cognitive analysis demonstrates advantages and perspectives of such cognitive approach.
